Democratic Committee Bill Analysis
Bill No.: SB 958 - PR. No.: 1161
Sponsor: Sen. Scarnati
Committee: Transportation
Date: June 17, 2009
Summary
This measure authorizes the turn back of a road to Ward Township, Tioga County by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Analysis
The bill would require Ward Township to adopt an ordinance or resolution accepting the roadway and pledging to maintain the road in the future. Once the ordinance or resolution is locally publicized the Secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will release the roadway to the township.
Positions
Ward Township is requesting this turn back.
History
The road “Old Possessions Road” mostly traverses state forest land, however, there are some year round residents. These residents are requesting plowing and maintenance services from the township.
Comments
This is not a PennDOT roadway and while the Township would be adding the mileage to their road system for purposes of liquid fuel allocations, it would not be subject to the Road Turn Back provisions.
