HARRISBURG, May 4, 2010 - - State Sen. J. Barry Stout today praised state Gaming Board approval of the addition of 62 table games at Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington County because it will create 549 jobs.
“The addition of table games at The Meadows will create a much-needed 549 jobs in Washington County,” Stout said. “By allowing our casinos to offer patrons table games, Pennsylvania casinos will maximize the amount of revenue brought in to plug revenue holes and reduce property taxes plus it will attract even more development.”
Stout said that the proposal submitted by The Meadows Casino estimated that residents hired to these jobs could make upwards of $44,000 per year through salary and tips.
The Meadows worked with the Community College of Beaver County to develop and implement the Table Games Training Program and will continue to utilize the college for any future training needs in Pennsylvania’s growing gaming industry.
“Washington County and southwestern Pennsylvania have many attractions that make our region a tourist destination point,” Stout said. “Adding table games will bring more guests to The Meadows and generate even more tourism dollars, economic activity and employment opportunities for area residents.”
The Meadows estimates that within its first full year of table games operations that table games will generate approximately $37 million in revenues. It is also estimated that more than $3 million will be spent in the local economy in relation to the opening of table games.
Some of the table games that will be offered at Meadows Racetrack and Casino include blackjack, roulette, craps, and poker.
