Stout, DeWeese Announce $400K State Grant for Greene Arc
HARRISBURG, June 17, 2010 - - State Sen. J. Barry Stout and state Rep. Bill DeWeese today announced that they have secured a $400,000 state grant to assist Greene Arc, Inc. in constructing a new Vocational Training Center and Headquarters in Waynesburg.
The grant is part of the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).
“This is a prime example of state money well-spent,” Stout said. “Greene Arc has been helping our citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities for more than 40 years and the construction of a new facility will only further their reach and impact in the community.”
Greene Arc recently sold its facilities in Washington Township, Greene County, to the United Mine Workers of America Career Centers for the development of their Mining Technology and Training Center. As a result, Greene Arc has until August to relocate to a new facility.
The RACP grant will help Greene Arc construct a new 12,450-square-foot, energy-efficient building along South Washington Street in Waynesburg.
It is estimated that the new facilities will allow Greene Arc to add 30 additional employees to their staff.
“This $400,000 state grant will help Greene Arc provide job training to a population that is most deserving of such assistance,” DeWeese said. “Sen. Stout has provided a crucial guiding hand on this and many other projects during his distinguished legislative career, and I have been privileged to work side-by-side with him during that time.”
RACP is a state grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, and historical improvement projects.
