HARRISBURG, February 6, 2008 - - State Sen. J. Barry Stout (D-Washington/Greene) announced today that an additional $5 million has been allocated to PennDOT’s 2007 Rail Capital Budget Transportation Assistance Program (TAP) allowing the grant application window to be re-opened.
Applications for TAP grants will be accepted from February 6 through 4:30 p.m. Thursday, February 21.
“I am ecstatic that we were able to allocate additional funds to help preserve and promote rail freight service in our state,” Stout said. “Pennsylvania has a rich history in rail freight and these grants will help stimulate economic development through rail freight service upgrades.”
Stout said that the intent of this program is to preserve essential rail freight service where economically feasible, and to preserve or stimulate economic development through the generation of new or expanded rail freight service.
Anyone who had applied for the first round of grants and did not receive funding does not need to apply again because unsuccessful applications will be re-evaluated along with new applications.
Stout said that grant applications could be obtained and submitted online at www.dot34.state.pa.us/egrants.
