STOUT ANNOUNCES IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR VOTERS

EIGHTY FOUR, April 17, 2008 — State Senator J. Barry Stout (D-Washington/Greene) today announced important Election Day information for Pennsylvania voters for what is shaping up to be a historic primary election.

“The more than 8.32 million Pennsylvanians planning to head to the polls this Tuesday, April 22 will play a critical role in the Presidential Primary,” Stout said. “Thousands of these voters are doing so for the first time or have reported a change of address to their county election office and will be appearing at a particular polling place for the first time.  These people need to be aware that an approved form of identification must be presented at the polling places.”

Stout said some approved forms of photo identification include:

  • Pennsylvania driver's license or PennDOT ID card

  • ID issued by any Commonwealth agency

  • ID issued by the U.S. Government

  • U.S. passport

  • U.S. Armed Forces ID

  • Student ID

  • Employee ID

If a voter does not have photo identification, he or she can use a non-photo identification that includes a name and address.  Approved forms of non-photo identification include:

  • Voter ID card issued by the voter registration commission

  • Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth

  • Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. Government

  • Firearm permit

  • Current utility bill

  • Current bank statement

  • Current paycheck

  • Government check

“I want to remind the voters that Pennsylvania is a closed primary state,” Stout said. “This means that in the April 22 election only Democrats and Republicans can vote and Democrats can only vote for Democrats and Republicans can only vote for Republicans.”
