HARRISBURG, Oct. 26, 2007 – State Sen. J. Barry Stout would like to remind families with special needs children that the deadline to apply for a Quality of Life Grant through NeighborHeart, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Richboro, Pa., is Nov. 1, 2007.
“This Pennsylvania nonprofit is making great strides in raising awareness and helping families that are dealing with autism and other developmental disabilities,” said Stout (D-Washington/Greene/ Allegheny/Beaver/Westmoreland). “They are doing great work, and we want to make sure people know about these grants.”
In order to qualify for a grant, a family must meet the following criteria:
- Have a child with developmental disorders living at home
- Live in Pennsylvania or another Mid-Atlantic state
- Submit receipts or other proof of expense for requested goods or services
- Submit documentation providing evidence of diagnosis and/or letter of recommendation on behalf of your child from a doctor or teacher
Grants range from $100 to $500, and families can use the money for anything that improves the quality of life for their special needs children, including remediation, therapy, medical travel, educational training, or vision services.
To apply for a Quality of Life Grant, eligible families can download an application from NeighborHeart’s Web site at www.neighborheart.org.
