HARRISBURG, April 24, 2007 - State Sen. J. Barry Stout,
Rep. Bill DeWeese, Rep. Peter Daley, Rep. David Levdansky, Rep.
Timothy Solobay, and Rep. Jesse White announced today that the
Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded a
$77,086 grant to a non-profit organization that monitors
compliance with state sanitation regulations in over 30
Washington County municipalities.
“Making sure that on-lot sewage systems are functioning properly
is one of the most important ways that we can protect our water
supply,” said Stout (D-Washington/Greene/Allegheny/Beaver/
Westmoreland). “However, this can be an expensive proposition.
That’s why the state reimburses local governments and
organizations for part of the expense associated with this
task.”
DEP awarded the funds to the Washington County Sewage Council
through the Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants Program. The
grant will reimburse the council for 50 percent of the costs
associated with evaluating and issuing permits for new on-lot
septic systems, repairing malfunctioning systems, and
investigating complaints.
