HARRISBURG, July 19, 2006 - State Sen. J. Barry Stout and Rep. David
Levdansky announced today that the Department of Conservation and Natural
Resources (DCNR) has awarded Washington County a $186,400 grant to design
and construct an additional 1.25 miles of paved walking and biking path in
Mingo Creek County Park.
“Mingo Creek County Park is a wonderful attraction for families,” said Stout
(D-Washington/Greene/Allegheny/Beaver/ Westmoreland). “This grant will help
make the park even better for exercise and nature enthusiasts.”
“It’s important that we continue to expand and improve safe areas for our
children and families to enjoy,” Levdansky (D-Washington/Allegheny) said.
“Parks like Mingo Creek promote a sense of community and are a great asset
to the area.”
DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation administers the Community
Conservation Partnership Program to provide financial and technical
assistance to local governments and organizations for the planning,
acquisition, and development of park, recreation, conservation, and
greenways projects. This grant is funded through the Pennsylvania
Recreational Trails Program, which receives funding through the federal
Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy
for Users (SAFETEA-LU).
Mingo Creek County Park is where professional mountain biker Jason Rushin
began his career and home to the Covered Bridge Festival. The park includes
horse trails, picnic shelters, playground areas, and ball fields, as well as
two covered bridges spanning Mingo Creek.
