HARRISBURG, January 9, 2006 – State Sen. J. Barry Stout and Rep.
Timothy Solobay today announced that the Pennsylvania Council on the
Arts has approved a $1,050 grant to Canonsburg borough to support
its annual summer concert series.
“Washington County provides many cultural offerings, so that people
don’t have to venture to Pittsburgh to experience the arts,” said
Stout (D-Washington/Greene/Allegheny/Beaver/Westmoreland). “With
state support, our local communities can continue to make these
events available to the public.”
“Music, arts and culture contribute to the vitality of our
communities," said Solobay. “This grant will not only allow the
borough to continue to offer summer concert programs but it will
help attract people downtown to support our local businesses."
Local governments across Pennsylvania can apply for grants less than
$10,000 that must be matched with local funds. These funds may be
used for on-going arts programs or one-time arts projects or may be
passed through to local non-profit arts agencies. The Pennsylvania
Council on the Arts approved this grant round at its Dec. 8, 2005,
meeting.
Canonsburg’s summer-long concert series includes "Sunday in the
Park" shows held at Town Park and "Cool Nights in Canonsburg"
concerts held downtown on Saturday evenings. All shows are free to
the public.
