STOUT ANNOUNCES FIRE COMPANY GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE

EIGHTY FOUR, January 7, 2005 - State Sen. J. Barry Stout is calling on local volunteer fire companies and ambulance services to submit their 2005 state grant applications.

“I hope every volunteer company in the 46th District takes advantage of this opportunity to update their firehouses and upgrade their gear,” said Stout (D-Greene/Washington/Allegheny/Beaver/Westmoreland).

Online applications for the Volunteer Fire Company/Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program must be completed by Feb. 28, 2005.

New this year, the application will require an itemized list of the expenses to be covered with the grant. The funds may be used for construction and renovation of facilities, purchase or repair of equipment, training of new members, or debt reduction.

Under the authorizing legislation, the state provides $22 million to volunteer fire companies and $3 million to ambulance services each year. Grants range from $2,500 to $15,000 for fire companies and from $2,500 to $10,000 for ambulance services.

The online grant application is available at www.OSFC.state.pa.us. Paper applications are also available from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
