STOUT COMMENCES 35TH YEAR OF LEGISLATIVE SERVICE

EIGHTY FOUR, January 6, 2005 -- State Sen. J. Barry Stout kicked off his 35th year of service in the Pennsylvania General Assembly by announcing his committee memberships and legislative agenda for the 2005-06 session.

Newly elected and re-elected members of the House and Senate were sworn in at the State Capitol on Tuesday. Stout (D-Greene/Washington/Allegheny/Beaver/Westmoreland) will continue as the Democratic chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and a member of the Appropriations Committee.

“Serving in these key positions provides opportunities to benefit the people of my district,” Stout said. “I relish the chance to tackle the problems facing Pennsylvania, working with my fellow Senators and the Governor.”

Stout will also serve on the Environmental Resources & Energy and Judiciary Committees. Creating jobs and stimulating economic opportunities in the district will dominate Stout’s game plan for 2005.

“The Mon-Fayette Expressway is an essential part of bringing southwestern Pennsylvania into the 21st century, linking people in Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and all points between,” Stout said. “Infrastructure will convince companies to locate here and invest in our communities.”

Stout first won election to the House in 1971 and moved to the Senate in 1977. Last session brought Stout a major legislative victory encouraging the use of waste coal and other alternative energy sources. Cleaning up the air and water in southwestern Pennsylvania remains a priority for Stout.
