HARRISBURG, August 25, 2005 - The
Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has awarded project
grants to the Washington County Clerk of Courts and Pennsylvania
Trolley Museum, according to state Sen. J. Barry Stout and Rep.
Timothy Solobay.
“It’s important that we preserve Pennsylvania’s history for future
generations,” said Stout (D-Washington/Greene/Allegheny/
Beaver/Westmoreland). “However, historical preservation projects can
be costly, so state support is important for these projects to
proceed.”
The Washington County Clerk of Courts will receive $4,996 to
preserve criminal and road records dating from 1848 to 1871 on
microfilm. This grant is part of a new initiative called Fast Track
Project Grants, which are small awards (less than $5,000) for
historic preservation and archival projects that require no local
match.
The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum will receive $5,000 for an
experienced heritage interpretation consultant to analyze the
quality and effectiveness of the museum’s current exhibits and
programs. The museum will also conduct an interpretive planning
workshop for staff and a training workshop for docent trainers.
In 1985, the General Assembly created the Pennsylvania History and
Museum Grant Program and continues to fund it through an annual
appropriation to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
